Download BoneTracker™
You will be downloading a Zip file--save it to your desktop. Zip files are compressed and requires a Zip program to open and use the product. The good news is that most newer computers have this software already installed. However, if you need a Zip program, we recommend PKZip.
Important Note: BoneTracker™ is not a “stand-alone” application. This means that it cannot be run without additional software. BoneTracker is a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, and as such, requires that Microsoft Excel is installed on the computer.
If you do not have Microsoft Excel, there are many spreadsheet software packages available that are compatible with the Excel file format. These alternate programs are often inexpensive or even free for personal use. One such is OpenOffice.
The one issue with using one of these Excel knock-off’s is that they usually will not support the MicroSoft VBA scripting language. In BoneTracker, the Data Entry Assistant is written in VBA and will not launch under these other software packages. However The DEA is not necessary for the use of BT, and the rest of the BoneTracker application will work correctly.
Using BoneTracker
- In the ZIP file you have downloaded you will find three files; BoneTracker_5.2.0.xls for tracking point-cycle rolls, BoneTracker_Quick_Start.pdf, BoneTracker_ReadMe_v5.2.0.pdf, BoneTracker_UserGuide.pdf, BoneTracker Software Notice and License.pdf, and a copy of the original DiceTool, DiceTool_Classic.xls .
-
Double-Click on the file. If you have Microsoft Excel installed on the computer, Excel will start and the BoneTracker spreadsheet will be launched.
If the spreadsheet is not launched you will need to either start your alternate software package first, or double check your spreadsheet software install
- Make a working copy of the BoneTracker by choosing File | Save As… from the Excel Menu. A File Save dialog appears where you will enter a name and location for your working file. Use a file naming convention that will help you track your results more easily. I like using dates and dice sets in my file naming (for example: Jul_36_32.xls).
- Enter your dice set configuration. This is done on the first tab entitled “Roll Data” as seen at the bottom of the screen. Enter your set configuration in the yellow boxes in the upper left corner of the screen where it is labeled “Tossing Set. Enter the set being tossed”. Use the existing set configuration as a guide.
- Delete the default roll data that was pre-loaded. The easiest way to do this is to “highlight” cells H4-I39 then press the “Delete” key on your key-board. If you have difficulty “highlighting” cells by dragging the mouse, just click in each cell one at a time and delete the data.
- Now it’s a good idea to save the file and save what you have done so far.
- Finally, click on the “Click Here to Enter Rolls” button to launch the Data Entry Assistant wizard and start tossin’ and trackin’
Have fun with it, and if you run into any trouble or have questions, you know where to find me on Heavy’s board.
Remember, keep your toss straight and your rack full.
