RANDOM ANALOGY

“Random Analogy” or how to play or not play a Random Roller...

I thought it might be a good idea to take a look at the Random Roller with all the interest focused on them lately. Random Rollers take up most of the positions at the craps tables. They are called other names such as RR’s, Randies, chicken feeders and as of late, fleas.

What is a Random Roller? In craps lingo a Random Roller is someone expected to throw a seven every six tosses. The Random Roller’s are shunned by the advantage players because of their ability to appear out of nowhere and clutter up the craps table with their nuisance bets and general lack of knowledge of the game.

There are several classes of Random Rollers. We have the common Random Roller that set the dice in some way so as to look like they know what they are doing and then just fire the dice down the table in any old fashion. Then there is the Random Roller that bets on everything. They have chips all over the board and are always questioning the payoffs. We also have the chip flipper who takes pride in seeing how far he can toss his chips into play. The last minute better falls into that class.

Where do they come from? They hide behind slot machines and cocktail waitresses. They are under the rug. I always look under the table before buying in. It wouldn’t surprise me if they were walking around dressed up as Suits.

Betting on the Random Roller is real gambling at its finest. How’s this new saying? “See a RR, bet a RR”. Be my guest.

How to play them? The old school of thought advocates using the infamous “Five Count”. Well, at lest you won’t lose anything on the first five tosses. You might get lucky on that sixth toss when you put out that come bet. If it’s a seven or eleven you win. If it is a box number, you go up in the box and are invited to put up odds that will put more money in jeopardy while the seven is now over due. Not for me. I would rather place the six or eight on the Random Roller from the get go and take my chances on his early throws rather than later on his over due seven expectancy tosses.

Random Rollers will get hot and when they do, you don’t want to be setting on your hands while the he throws number after number. If you have a number working and the Random Roller gets hot, he will make your number in the mix and you can expand from there.

Random Rollers can be your friends. They all fumble around setting the dice enough to keep the heat off you. If you suspect a Random Roller of being a dice influencer, check his toss first. If he has a consistent toss and landing the dice in the same area over and over, bet him. Don’t worry about what he is setting. It’s the results that count. Take note of what he is betting and follow suit.

Some of my best friends are Random Rollers who love the sport of craps but are too busy working or just too lazy to practice and learn what it takes to become a winner.
